On Thursday’s final night of the Republican National Convention, the RNC broadcast what was billed as a tribute to 9/11 victims, but by tying in the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis and the Iraq invasion and occupation, resembled more a propaganda news reel that exploited horribly the memories of the victims and heroes of 9/11. <a href='http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeffrey-feldman/mccain-rnc-video-tribute_b_124182.html' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Jeffrey Feldman</a>: </p> <blockquote><p>No doubt, showing a 9/11 video at a political convention was emotional exploitation. But it was also something much worse: it was blatant historical revisionism. It was a cynical attempt to claim attacks on Americans–1979 and 2001–were carried out by the same ‘enemy.’ </p> <p>What Olbermann should have apologized for was MSNBC accidental transformation of their network into a mechanism of the most cynical kind of Orwellian propaganda.</p> <p>John McCain did not make the link between 9/11 and Iran in his RNC speech, but we can be certain that the video ‘tribute’ is a sign of what is to come on the campaign trail between now and November.</p> <p>The media’s responsibility from this point forward is clear: either they can sit back and let McCain’s historical revisionism stand or they can move quickly to debunk it.</p> <p>Either way, it seems apparent that major broadcast outlets need to take a more proactive role in pre-screening for blatant historical inaccuracies any video a political party plans to show during a national broadcast–or at least preparing to immediately debunk politically motivated inaccuracies.</p> </blockquote> <p> So Media–you lazy ass, dismissive-of-blogs-who-do-your-job-better-than-you, monolith of bias? That respect was lacking…</p> <p> It’s fine to ask what the “Factor Free” considers tough questions, but O’Reilly tries to make guests that are threatening to him and Republicans look weak next to his huge ego and he’s good at that. I thought Obama held his own against this Republican hypocrite, but make no mistake about it, BillO is very good at what he does—especially when he had Obama in his sights. I imagine in the next segment Bill will be bashing left wing bloggers and MoveOn furiously because he fears us also, but not as much as Obama. Barack represents the changing of the guard that we so desperately need if we’re going to help our country. The new <a href='http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080905/ap_on_bi_go_ec_fi/economy;_ylt=ApxrmheSj2DREUr5BiyL20.s0NUE' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Jobless Report was staggering this morning</a> (5 year high) and McCain will only make increase these figures. </p> <p> After the segment was over—he had a little nasty grin on his face as he berated Jane Hall when she tried to analyze Bill’s question about if she bought the idea that Obama was a <i>terror warrior</i>. You see to Bill, Obama has to scream and jump up and down like Republicans do about terrorism instead of actually doing something about protecting America. O’Reilly’s into the words instead of the actions. After he cut off Hall and tried to embarrass her, he moved over to winger Monica Crowley and asked is she thought Obama was a <i>terror warrior </i>and the Republican shill gave Bill the answer he wanted. She said “no ” and O’Reilly laughing approved. This is the way he willproceed for the next few days. He’ll applaud Obama for coming on and then do the best he can to help McCain and the tired and ineffective conservative movement.</p> <p>The Republican Party has failed miserably on national security and McCain wants to use the same Bush policies in the extreme, but he talks tough so that’s fine with Billy. Let’s ask BO if Bush is a <i>terror warrior</i> and how did he do? He failed horribly and so has the Republican Party, but Bill needs to protect his own. </p> <p>(There’s plenty here to talk about in this clip. She did very well from a likability stand point and the media for the most part gave her a huge thumbs up. I would agree with that too. Some think she was a bit too hostile, but we’ll see. And since she doesn’t think a woman should get an abortion even if she is raped, the James Dobson wing of the Republican party just adores her. The ratings were great too so more Americans were able to see her. Why is that important? Here’s a very <a href='http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/03/opinion/polls/main4413191.shtml?source=mostpop_story' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>revealing poll from CBS</a>:</p> <blockquote><p>Sixty-six percent had no opinion of her in a CBS News poll conducted over the weekend. In polling completed on Monday and Tuesday, sixty percent still had no opinion about her. </p> </blockquote> <p>I believe even after all the media exposure she has received, there will still be a major portion of Americans that will not know her because there’s not enough time so I think the election still rests on McCain’s shoulders. I believe we’ll have to wait and see what the polls say to really be able to judge how America felt about her and McCain after the smoke clears from the Conventions. Obama received a bounce after his and I hope he can retain half of it.</p> <p>Oh, and the Republicans are setting up McCain too tonight. I have certainly urged that we heavily scrutinize her ties to to the AKIP and look into her extremist religious views. The Republicans are as good at campaigning as they are bad at governing so they picked the one guy who could even remotely claim to be a “different kind of Republican” even though his only distinction from them is that he lashes out incoherently at members of both parties. Unlike the monkish, ascetic post-partisan Obama, who appeals to people’s better nature, he is an angry bipartisan warrior who (along with his brave, martyr’d second) will bring down the wrath of God on all those who fail to put “country first.” If he can convince just a few more people that that’s what it’s going to take to fix the country’s problems, then he’ll win. I don’t think people are that dumb. I understand the need for Republicans to tout their own expertise — though the snideness put me in mind of the movie “<a href='http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097493/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Heathers</a>” personally –but this line of attack just seems to fly in the face of the larger Republican narrative that it shouldn’t be the government doing everything for you. If you believe that, it would seem that community organizers would be something to laud. Especially since Sarah Palin’s own foray into politics was being the President of the PTA in order to have a voice in the educational standards of her children.
