    Unfortunately those are all pre Victorian romanticized renderings of historical dress. If you would like to see how the Roman world viewed the Germans look at Trajan’s column. As to how a typical Roman era Germanic tribesman dressed, there are finds in Angeln, Denmark Dammendorf, Germany and Salisbury, England. Historic clothing research has come a long way since the 1860’s.
